Whe We Are

  • On January 2, 2018, Allos Environmental, Inc., Salt Lake City, UT, acquired Chicago Grade Landfill (CGL) in Templeton, CA,.
  • CGL is a full-service Class III landfill for MSW while also offering recycling, used tire management, household hazardous waste management and commercial/industrial waste services.
  • CGL has been operating and servicing the customer of the central coast for more than three decades.
  • The 188 acre parcel has been operated effectively and efficiently by an experienced staff who will continue to manage the facility.

Central California Coast Situation

  • The facility is located in one of the fastest growing regions of California.
  • Studies indicate that San Luis Opispo County is growing at a rate more in line with national averages rather than California.
  • Located in Templeton, CA, the facility is situated near Paso Robles between San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara.

Landfill Facts

CGL waste acceptance:

  • Municipal Solid Waste Disposal
    • CGL is presently permitted to receive up to 500 tons per day of municipal solid waste
  • Commercial/Industrial Waste Disposal
  • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) (IWMA Facility)
    • Specially designated area managed by IWMA’s HHW Collection accepts:
      • Paint
      • Liquids
      • Oil
      • Solvents
      • Gasoline
      • TV/Computer Monitors
      • Spray cans
    • The maximum amount that can be dropped for free is 15 gallons or 125 pounds. Fees may apply for larger volumes or when more than one TV/computer monitor is delivered.
    • HHW should NOT be placed in normal garbage nor discarded in an uncontrolled manner. The uncontrolled disposal of HHW presents potential problems to the environment, the public and to landfill employees.
    • The HHW unit does NOT accept:
      • Radioactive materials
      • Explosives
      • Biomedical waste (sharps, lancets or needles)

    • Small business use of the facility must be approved prior to arrival by calling 1-800-400- 0811.
    • IWMA receives materials at the unit on Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM

      • Non-friable asbestos
      • Used Tires (truck, passenger car and farm equipment)
      • Green wastes (grass, shrubs, stumps and other yard wastes)
      • Appliances (refrigerators, water heaters, washer/dryers, dishwashers and freezers)

Future Development

  • Allos will bring increased efficiencies through site design and operating processes to improve efficiency and air space utilization.
  • Allos will bring an upgraded IT system to the facility. This system will include new scale systems, upgraded service access through the Allos web site and advanced reporting services to our customers, contractors and regulators. This systems will include a full waste approval system for managing and tracking all wastes received at the facility.
  • These improvements will allow CGL to expand the range of customers it serves and enhance the service to its existing customer base.
